New Business Ideas

Today, I chatted with a guy that is working hard to build a home automation company that will cater to the growing needs of urban India. While chatting with this person, I realized that our growing nation is at a stage where not just automation, but a host of other business opportunities are opening up.

CAR WASH BUSINESS
For instance, look at the Car Wash business. In 2015, there were 28.6 million cars in India, representing an increase of 306% from 7.04 million in 2001. This growing statistic is a reflection of the average auto consumer's appetite for new vehicles. To start a car wash center in India, location will play a vital role in deciding monthly revenues. One would need a location that is closer to either offices or residential areas and would require government permit. Secondly, the car wash business will need to obtain waste water disposal permits. However, this is a capital intensive business and will require the person to train others to run it successfully. Additionally, the car wash business is very competitive and may need regular revisiting of the business plan. A school friend is already running a successful car business in Pune and I believe there is a huge market for this business.

RESIDENTIAL SOLAR POWER
As the discussion flowed, the automation business guy mentioned the increasing use of solar power panels in homes. He quoted that installation of a residential 3KV solar power system can be installed for as low as INR 70,000. I researched more and discovered that one can put surplus power into the electricity grid, and earn credits in your electricity bill. In a country like India that receives a lot of sunshine, solar power can prove to be the ultimate game changer in the energy consumption sector.

BATTERY STORAGE
Spurning from this discussion, our minds wandered off to the battery storage business, the next disruptive technology in the power energy sector. Storage prices are dropping due to growing market for consumer electronics and electric vehicles. The lithium-ion powered batteries have been developed to an extent that storage is already economical for many commercial businesses. This technology has the ability to transform the way customers consume and possibly produce power in the future.

STORAGE FACILITY BUSINESS
Coming back to the present, the other storage business is creating tremendous excitement in the United States. The storage facility business can take a number of different forms. For instance, a facility can offer public storage in relatively small lockers where customers can store their personal items. Other facilities can look like warehouses and offer large storage rooms to individuals as well as local businesses. A climate-controlled storage can be used not only by locals but also by universities, historical societies and museums. Self-storage units can serve a person's relocation needs by storing old furniture, artwork and other collections. This business requires large up-front capital investment and advertising along with the promise of quality customer service. I think the storage business can only be profitable if the business can operate the facility on an existing land or a very low rented space.

Betting :(

How it ruined my interest in Cricket ...

Till a few weeks ago, I was totally into IPL cricket. For the past five seasons, I did not like this division of Mumbai,Delhi,Hyderabad into different teams. But this season apparently something different happened. I love to fantast football in English Premier League. A small bunch from college plays this for the whole year with fantastic intensity. For the first time, IPL official site was offering this and I was hooked onto it for the fun and thrill of selecting a squad and analyzing the teams. For the whole IPL season, I played the league with total commitment. And on one friday, news comes in about betting and fixing in IPL. Now, I am an avid fan but a practical one too. There was always a chance of betting in such a high profile event. But, this news took the wind out of my sails. Then, I stopped playing IPL fantasy and inadvertently stopped with cricket.

MY FAVORITE IPL PLAYER : CHRIS GAYLE
MY FAVORITE CRICKETER : SACHIN TENDULKAR

How is this run ..

Today, the betting circuit is run by a superbookie like CSK owners and RR owners. They provide team information to the betting mafia that sits in london. This way they pass onto info to TOP punters in India. The top punters gather that info and predict the outcome. That way they manipulate the odds and play the game.
God, this game has stooped to new levels. Thank you IPL. :(

  • Day 3: Chest, Back
  • Day 4: Cardio
  • Day 5: Arms, Lower Abs
  • Day 6: Cardio
  • Day 7: Shoulders, Upper Traps
  • DTP Overview

GYM : From January 23rd : DTP Program : Dramatic Transformation Principle by Kris Gethin : 12 weeks

    DTP Principles
The principles of DTP are simple. You can do this trainer in your home gym. There's no need for fancy equipment or specialized machines. If you follow the principles as they're laid out, there's no reason you won't see amazing results.
DTP is a pyramid trainer. You lift four days per week with cardio days between each weight session. You'll only be doing one or two exercises for each muscle group or body part, but you might hit 500 reps across multiple sets.
    • Day 1: Legs, Upper Abs
    • Day 2: Cardio
    • Day 3: Chest, Back
    • Day 4: Cardio
    • Day 5: Arms, Lower Abs
    • Day 6: Cardio
    • Day 7: Shoulders, Upper Traps

    Pyramid Scheme ///
DTP sets are typically 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 reps. You increase weight as you go up the pyramid, so you're always lifting as heavy as possible in a given rep range. When you've completed the first 5 sets, you'll go back down the pyramid -- 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 reps -- decreasing weight as you go. All told, you'll do ten sets.
50 reps for the first set might seem like a lot, but stick to it. It'll serve to act as your warm-up set, and it will take you to absolute failure. This high amount of reps promotes the flow of synovial fluid to your joints, opens up neuromuscular pathways, gets more blood to your muscles, and activates nerve endings to get those motor-neurons firing for proper muscle-fiber contraction.
You may hit failure before 50. If that's the case, take a rest, do a couple reps, take another rest, and continue. Make sure you get to 50 reps! After you've hit 50, rest for 45 seconds, up the weight, and go for 40.
As the weight goes up, take longer rest periods between sets. The rest intervals for the first 5 sets look like this: 45, 60, 75, 90, 105 seconds. When you go back down, you'll rest for 120, 105, 90, 75, 60 seconds. Most importantly, rest as long as you need to recover your strength, and not a moment longer.

    Book Fest

January 2013 : My Own Book Fest

I read a few books this January, to be exact : 3. The first book I started was The Immortals of Meluha, which I finished in rougly 4 days. A book of more than 400 pages, needless to say I completed more than half of it sittting in office. The second book is the secondpart of the SHIVA TRIOLOGY : The Secret of the Nagas, which was much more engrossing than the first book. By the time, I completed this 400 page book I was hooked on reading. So I took up 'Shit Happens' a 170 page fun ride of an Indian boy who heads to America to become a new guy. He enjoys the American way of life and learns his lessons the hard way.

All in all , a fun two weeks. Hope to continue reading..

11th December 2012 : Blackest Day of my Life

Yes, I am disappointed, frustrated, angry, irate and mad at the same time. I am strong guy so I can't really cry. Today at 6:45 am, I checked my cell phone and logged into gmail. This one message from University of Houston flashed and crashed my life. I was shell shocked. The message said that I cannot get the I-20 for my summer intake just because my file was showing my status as J-1.

    Two points here :
    1. I went to Houston for an internship in 2010. The best 23 days of my life.
    2. Due to this, my status became J-1 and immigration people forgot to update my file in 2012. I applied to the same University in 2012 and result : They are confused.

Hell, when you don't update the file, you will be confused. This sheer lack of stupidity meant that they are not sure whether I should be given I20. I fulfill their section 212(E) requirement. I make every preparation for loan documents to be sanctioned in I20. Now what happens ? They send me a mail that I can't be part of the petroleum engineering program because of a man's mistake who is sitting a thousand miles away.

My soul knows that the only thing I ever wanted from my life was to go to UH. I had sketched so many dreams. Damn it, I worked damn hard for giving my GRE. Who works for nine hours ? Then spends two hours in the gym ? Then studies 3 hours straight ? I did that. For one dream.

I don't want to go to any ivy-league university. I want only UH. Now, I want to know if I anybody is in my position... does he start to believe in horoscopes ... in grahas .. in hindu stuff. I don't know I think my spirit is broken. I wish I could take this situation and just move on. I can't man. I can't .
